Strategy

THE RIGHT THING, The Right Way

Healthcare is transforming at a rapidly accelerating (mind-numbing) pace.

C-suite leaders often must simultaneously manage today’s business while building the company of the future. Strategic choices made today have long-lasting implications and should be made in the context of a broader and fast-moving ecosystemShifting healthcare policy, value-based care, population health, increased patient engagement, and avoiding physician/care team burnout can be solved in an integrated fashion with collaboration and innovation.

As the pace, scale, and impact of technological innovation and disruption have exponentially escalated, technology has become a primary influence on business strategy, strategic choices, and value-creation models

n our rush to "change", we tend to leap to "What's the solution?" So we demo and teach a bunch of tactics and methods that have been determined to be the solution. The result is all skillset and no mindset.

Doing the right thing requires:

  • Context - a deep understanding of the problem space

  • Empathy - an intimate knowledge of the user and user's needs (physician, nurses, administrators, payors, and patients)

  • Strategic insight - a keen sense of what's really important, both in the short and long term

Doing it the right way requires:

  • Thoughtfulness - action informed by clinical, business, and technology realities

  • Laser Focus - the ability to remove/minimize distractions

  • Iteration - the flexibility to tailor until right approaches perfect

With technology driving transformation, long-term sustainable value will only be created by unifying business and technology strategies to cocreate exponential value for companies.

The importance of big data

transitioning from FFS to value based arrangments

Healthcare systems and governments are embracing innovation toward more personalized, prevention-oriented care, while facing growing pressure to address the rising cost of care. At the same time, the system is burdened by the demographic challenge of increasing numbers of patients with complex healthcare needs, including multiple chronic conditions requiring team-based care and coordination. Without effective solutions, clinician burdens are increasing, with more providers reporting that they are overwhelmed by care coordination, documentation, and compliance requirements.

Recent reforms have aimed to encourage a shift away from fee-for-service to value-based financing approaches and the adoption of these models by private insurers. But all these efforts are occurring in an environment of uncertainty due to limited evidence on the most effective approach to reform.  Systems in the US and around the world have not solved the question of how to pay for care in a way that encourages this shift to high-value, innovative care and how to empower patients and consumers to help lead it.

With technology driving transformation, long-term sustainable value will only be created by unifying business and technology strategies to cocreate exponential value for companies.
